Materials: Students
will need access to poster making equipment, computer and printer, internet and
various documents. Students will be designing menus and preparing them for
their camp groups. They will be responsible for food and equipment.
Safety: These
assignments involve preparing and cooking food over camp stoves and open fires.
Care must be exercised when using axes, starting and maintaining fire, storing
and handling fuel, preparing food and extinguishing fires.
Assignment:
“How to Eat in the Woods” Assignment - Examine nutritional
recommendations for outdoor activities. Create a three day menu fitting the
criteria given to you by the instructor. Create a cooking equipment list for
backpacking, car camping, and group camping. Design sample menus for each of
the following meals, keeping within the various parameters. Menu items must
follow good nutritional guidelines and be reasonable for a pack-in cooking
